Healer's Tea | A TCM Formula for Jing & Qi

Jar of Restored Essence standing among garden plants beside a wooden fence

The "healers tea" traditionally refers to a combination of these tonic herbs: Licorice root (Glycyrrhizae uralensis) and Dendrobium (Suk Gok). When Goji berries (Lycium Fruit) and Schisandra berries (Schizandrae Fructus) are added to this classic formula, healer's tea's benefits expand significantly, creating a powerful tonic brew that supports overall radiant health, vitality, and longevity.

This is why we have created our Restored Essence (based on this classic Healer's Tea formula) with the 4 herbs - Licorice root (Glycyrrhizae uralensis), Dendrobium (Suk Gok), Goji berries (Lycium Fruit) and Schisandra berries (Schizandrae Fructus)

Before we begin, we would like to acknowledge and thank the work of Master Tonic Herbalist Ron Teeguarden, without which we would not have discovered Healer's Tea... Nor would we be able to write this wonderful post!

Here are the primary benefits of this comprehensive "healers tea" formula:

Healer's Tea is a Classic TCM formula designed to help healer's and caregivers to replenish spent Qi & Jing.
Healer's Tea as "Restored Essence"

Primary Benefits of the Core "Healers Tea" (Dendrobium & Chinese Licorice):

  • Provides "healer's energy": Specifically recommended for those who work as healers, as it's believed to supply energy that can be expended in service to others
  • Supports those who give: Traditionally used to support the energy of people dedicated to helping others.
  • Rejuvenating power: Many consumers attest to its rejuvenating effects
  • Kidney Yin Jing tonic: In TCM, Dendrobium is a Yin Jing tonic associated with the Kidneys, considered the body's reservoir of Jing.
  • Lower back and knees: Areas traditionally associated with the Kidneys in TCM.
  • Nourishes saliva: Dendrobium nourishes the "Precious Fluid" of saliva.
  • Moistens the skin: In TCM, Dendrobium is a moistening Yin tonic, traditionally enjoyed for beautiful, moist skin.
  • Harmonizes: Licorice Root is known in TCM as the "Great Harmonizer" that traditionally brings a formula together.
  • Qi tonic: Licorice is traditionally used as a Qi tonic.

Additional Healer's Tea Benefits from Goji Berry (Lycium Fruit):

  • Traditionally regarded as a Yin Jing and Blood tonic.
  • Traditional longevity food.
  • A favorite among martial artists and athletes.
  • Rich in polysaccharides.
  • Beauty tonic: Traditionally enjoyed for radiant skin, and rich in carotenoids.

Additional Healer's Tea Benefits from Schisandra Berry:

  • Beautifier: Schisandra is a classic beauty tonic in Taoist herbalism, traditionally valued for glowing, clear skin.
  • Mind tonic: Schisandra is a classic “mind tonic” in Taoist herbalism.
  • Adaptogen: Traditionally regarded as a premier adaptogen, and in TCM terms a Kidney tonic.
  • Primary liver tonic in TCM: Traditionally used to support the liver.
  • Lung tonic: Traditionally associated with the Lungs in TCM.
  • Possesses all five classical tastes: Believed to embody the essence of the five elemental energies, making it a comprehensive tonic.

Synergistic Benefits of the Combined Formula:

  • Comprehensive Jing (Essence) Tonification: Dendrobium (Yin Jing), Goji (Yin Jing), and Schisandra (Jing) are all traditionally used to nourish Jing, the body's fundamental life force in Taoist tradition.
  • Radiant Skin: Goji and Schisandra are both renowned beauty tonics in Taoist herbalism, and Dendrobium is a moistening Yin tonic.
  • A Calm, Clear Mind: Schisandra is a classic “mind tonic”, and Licorice is traditionally said to sharpen concentration.
  • Blood Tonic: Goji is traditionally regarded as a Blood tonic in TCM.
  • Overall Harmonization: Licorice acts as the "Great Adjunct" and "Great Harmonizer", traditionally bringing the other herbs together. The overall taste is described as delicious.

This comprehensive Healer's Tea formula, combining these four "superior herbs," is traditionally used to nourish the "Three Treasures" (Jing, Qi, and Shen).
